Also that's a really good idea re making an extra layer so you can try it, I don't know why I haven't thought of doing that.

Thank you Becky! I’m really happy with the finished cake.
I started doing the extra cake layer or a couple cupcakes a couple years ago. There was a cake I made and when I tried a bit at my Grandad’s birthday party I realized it didn’t turn out how I wanted it to. My Grandad and other guests loved it but to me it tasted too much like artificial strawberry. Not enough real strawberry. So since then I’ve tried to bake the extra cake just to make sure the cake tastes good and the cake, filling and frosting compliment each other.
