White fat and shortening

Hello. Is white fat the same as shortening like Crisco? If yes, can it be used for buttercream alone? Or it must be mixed with butter?

Look at the container to determine the type of fat. If it states 100% vegetable fat, then it can be used like Crisco in American style icing. It can be used with or without butter in icing.
