Upside down cake

I still have to try my hand in baking a cake and the advice I get is to bake an upside down cake. I remember my mother baking that same cake when I was young. That one has the round slice of pineapple on top. Take note that I still have no recipe for that but I am wondering why 3 people advised me with that kind of cake. Maybe it is easy to bake? I understand that flour has its idiosyncrasy so I am quite scared because when you mix flour in the wrong way then the cake may not rise or expand properly.
