Tips for Making Fondant at Home

Has anyone ever made fondant? What method did you use? Do you have any tips for a first time fondant maker?

I've never tried it myself, although I've got a friend who makes her own for her cake business. She said it was tricky at first to get the balance right, but with a bit of elbow grease you get there. I'm lazy so I buy the ready made stuff!!
