Tips for decorating Christmas cookies?

Hello, fellow bakers! For Christmas this year, I plan to give most of my family members platters of Christmas cookies and assorted candy as gifts. Although I've got the recipe for sugar cookies down, my decorating abilities are quite amateur. Do any of you have any tips to help me make my cookies aesthetically pleasing?
