Hi,

I'm new to this forum and just looking for some advice. I want to make a 2 tier cake for my son's birthday but not sure what the best recipe is? I'm a bit worried the top tier will sink if the bottom cake isn't sturdy enough.

Thanks x

I've made a few tiered cakes in the past and in terms of recipe it shouldn't really matter or atleast I never had the problem of a tier sinking. But you need to make sure to level both tiers and make sure they are flat when you place them over each other. Hope that helps :)

I haven't made a tier cake in years, but back then we used cardboard forms between layers, for stability. I've never heard of a layer collapsing onto one below, but here's a short video of how to make a homemade layer cake. I've never used her technique with the paper towel, but it actually could be really nice, if you select paper towels with a pattern that matches the occasion.
