Have you ever made them? Have any good recipes or just little tips to share? They are so yummy and beautiful, but I worry they wouldn't be as easy as one might think.

When my kids were little I used to make stained glass cookies with them all of the time. I just used a rolled sugar cookie recipe and would make the cutouts in them. The kids would sprinkle in the broken up life savors we would use. Sometimes they just used one color in each cookie, other times they mixed the colors. Whatever they did, they always came out beautiful.

I remember making these is elementary school and I was so impressed that they really did look like stained glass!

I haven't made them since then but you gave me a great idea for Christmas. Baking cookies together is a family tradition and I know the kids will love making there. :) Here is a recipe that I found that I am planning on using!!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm glad to know they are as easy as they seem...they're so good and so beautiful :). Trellum, really? Oh you have to give them a try! They are tasty, and yes, so beautiful and so much variation to what you can do with them...I've heard of a lot of different candies being used to make the stained glass portion, too, so a lot of flavour options as well ;).

Ohh thanks for that one ACSAPA, very helpful! :) I was thinking of using Jolly Ranchers, at least the first time, as that's the first one I ever tried..I might branch out from there eventually, though.

Stained glass cookies are great for hanging on your Christmas tree. Just put a hole in the top and hang with ribbon,,, just replace them as they are eaten.

Oh definitely, Evelyn. Those and the cinnamon cookies and popcorn strings...something whimsical and fun about edible decorations ;).

My Mom always put up two Christmas trees. One had regular ornaments and the other was for the kids. It was covered with cookies, popcorn string and gum drop strings. We always looked forward to helping make the decorations for that tree,,, and of course, eating them afterward.

OMG!!!

Like most of you, I remember these from when I was little. I haven't seen these made in over 40 years!!!
Yes, these were super yummie, and treats to be hung on the C'mas tree and eaten off the tree on C'mas day.

My granny made them with plain sugar cookie dough, rolled out and cut into shapes (or using cookie cutters) and then using lifesavers candy as the "glass", like most of you remember them.

Wow.

You know if these were made nowadays, I bet they would be a big hit, because they haven't been made in so many years now....hardly anyone remembers them.

And actually, any hard sugar candy will work for the "glass".....
Lifesavers
Jolly Ranchers
C'mas Ribbon Candy
Old fashioned hard candy
Sours
Peppermints
Lemon Drops

Do you guys remember the old fashioned hard sugar candies????
This is what my granny used to use, besides Lifesavers....
