After a week of mostly gardening I decided to stay in and bake today. I'm in the middle of making Pretzel Bread Rolls. All the recipes I have call for a lye bath. I have no lye in the house and don't want any. I knew I'd made pretzels before and did not use lye, so I just started mixing it up. Then started searching online and found what I'd used before. Same as for bagels, boiled them in a baking soda bath before baking.
