By bread loaf dish you mean something narrow and deep? If so, that won't work. It's too deep and the batter might stay raw in the middle. Also the fruit will likely sink to the bottom.

You want a casserole baking dish for cobblers OR a fairly deep frying pan that can be put into the oven and stand up to 375°--a cast iron pan one of the best containers for cobblers if you have one. They bake up perfectly in those.

Please let us know what you end up using and how it comes out. You can always buy one of those cheap, disposable baking pans they sell at the market for a one-time bake. The sort of pan you'd bake a sheet cake in would do fine.
